Breaking into South Florida’s DIY punk scene, Modern Day 84 began playing music in the summer of 2000. What started off as a few backyard jamming sessions developed into a serious idea, when we began to draw in kids from the streets. By the end of that summer, we had begun writing songs and scheduling a number of shows. Despite some early struggles, Modern Day 84 was determined to get our music out.

Over the years, we have had the opportunity to grow as musicians and most importantly as individuals. Through the trials that we have faced and the experiences that we lived through, Modern Day 84 has fought hard to have our voices heard through our energetic and dynamic style of politically charged music. In early 2001, Modern Day 84 self-released a six-song EP as our introduction to the world. The EP was well received and we had distributed hundreds in just a few shows. On May 31st in 2002, Geykido Comet Records released “Dropping Food On Their Heads Is Not Enough”, a compilation cd inspired by a number of politically-conscious and socially-aware punk artists coming together to help raise awareness and funds for the women and children of war-torn Afghanistan. As part of this musical brigade, we had the chance to work with a number of renowned artists such as Jello Biafra, Anti-Flag, Link 80, Bouncing Souls, and more. On May 17th in 2005, Complacent Records released “Voices of Discontent”, a compilation pinning us together with bands such as a Red Tape, Naked Aggression, Intro5pect, New Mexican Disaster Squad, Monster Squad, and others.

Though it’s still early in our career, we have had the privilege of playing and making friends with some of the best bands in the scene as well a number of punk rock legends who have paved the way for the musicians of today. These bands include Against All Auithority, The Adolescents, The Vibrators, The Queers, Marky Ramone, The Subhumans, The Casualties, A Global Threat, The Unseen, Strike Anywhere, The Voodoo Glow Skulls, The Briggs, The Virus, Clit 45, Complete Control, The Independents, Against Me!, Pipedown, The New Mexican Disaster Squad, The Crumbs, & more. Whether on the road or back in our home town, we’ve been lucky enough to meet and work with some of the greatest people that you could hope to find out there in this world.

The inspiration that we have gained from all those whom have supported Modern Day 84 since the beginning, is the fuel that drives us to fight for what we believe in. The kids we meet and sing with at our shows make all the blood, sweat, and tears worth it. For that we can never thank you enough. While this is our passion, we hope to give people music and a message that they can relate to, as well as provide a voice for those who’ve just had enough of our torn society.
